Herr Huber

Herr Huber is the result of an experimental exploration of structural failure and crushing as a way of manufacturing unique products. The original shape was cut out of a regular cone of sheet metal. 13 tons of uniaxial load formed this chair in a specifically engineered procedure.

While crumpling zones and structural failure can be modelled, an experimental hands-on approach was chosen. Experiments in 1:5-scale models out of paper or thin aluminium sheet helped develop the novel manufacturing method in a quick and iterative process.
